Emmanuel Blake Dawson, a Million Dollar Scholar, wanted a degree that would enhance his skill set, and he has been able to apply many takeaways from all that he’s learned in the Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management program at Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) School of Business and Industry (SBI).
We asked Dawson more about his academic journey:
Q. How did you become interested in Supply Chain Management?
I first became interested in supply chain management after graduating high school and completing an internship at wine and spirit maker, Brown-Forman. During a marketing competition, I told the story from the white oak tree to the bottle of Jack Daniels that you buy off the shelf. I realized then that it wasn’t
the product, but the process I was selling. So when SBI began the Supply Chain Management program in my sophomore year, I knew I had to sign up.
Q. How have you been so successful in your academic career?
I’ve been successful here because of the great professors in SBI, as well as my own personal drive. SBI will push you to become the best version of yourself.
Q. What advice would you give other students who are considering enrolling in the Supply Chain Management program?
SBI is what you make it. Just because you wear a suit twice a week and go to class on-time everyday doesn’t mean you’ll be successful. What makes you successful is the drive that you show, the perseverance and tenacity you show not only to your studies, but also to putting yourself out there and making yourself known.
We have a plethora of famous alumni. SBI will give you the tools to be successful for years to come.
Q. Who or what inspires you to succeed?
My grandmother always told me that I should do good for myself by doing well for others. And because of my time here in SBI, I know I’ve lived up to that mantra. Not only have I been successful, but what I’m most excited about is I have mentees who are freshmen and sophomores who are able to gain internships and valuable life-long experiences from my knowledge.
